As a social justice group, we stand against anything that characterises oppression, whether it's racism, ableism, sexism, rankism, or any other framework of injustice. Trump's rhetoric is toxic, and is not what this country should stand for. As a result, PLUMAS was ready to act when a Trump rally was held in our area. PLUMAS is an organisation dedicated to fighting injustices, and fighting to prevent injustices from happening. It is not acceptable to allow someone who dehumanizes refugees, immigrants, and many other oppressed groups gain such power in our country, and we will move forward every step of the way that it takes to make this be known, standing up for our college peers, our families, or friends, who contribute to this country in more ways than one.

In April of 2015, PLUMAS brought forth to UMD the very first Latinx Town Hall Meeting. The goal of this event was to discuss the current state of Latinx student climate on campus, from our presence in the University, to the issues that our community needs addressed. We had a panel including faculty, staff, community organizers and students. Students and allies of our community came forth to share their stories about campus climate, about their worries for the community,

and about the needs they witnessed. It was a memorable experience, and we hope to continue igniting change and thoughts about the presence of Latinxs at the

University of Maryland through dialogue, and constant action.

Police brutality is a very real issue, affecting countless lives, narratives, and livelihoods in our societies. In solidarity with the African American community, PLUMAS stands for black lives, because BLACK LIVES MATTER. We've stood in solidarity, continuing to do so at DC/Ferguson rallies (seen in picture above), and #OccupyStamp on our very own UMD campus, as well as other movements. As allies, we are ready to stand side by side by our communities, our brothers and sisters, to help speak up against systematic oppresion, and injustice.

"It is our duty to fight for freedom, it is our duty to win. We must love and protect each other. We have nothing to lose but our chains." -Assata Shakur

In 2014, a serious issue was brought to light regarding children immigrants.

Many came from countries in Central America, fleeing the horrific violence and

poverty. Many organisations, such as PLUMAS, helped make this issue reach

more people through vigils, protests, and activist efforts. Part of PLUMAS' mission

is to speak up for those who cannot, and these

children are a prime example, as well as

driving force for our efforts. Humanity deserves kindness and help when in need, not being outcasted and traumatized by experiences like these children

faced.
